Lotze Prize for String Players\,” “The Winner of the Atwater Kent Concerto Competition\,” “The Leroy Collins Memorial Scholarship\,” “The Member of the Pi Kappa Lambda the National Music Honor Society\,” and “The Silver Medalist of the 2023 Euterpe Music Awards.” \n\n\n\nPhilip started playing violin at the age of four. At the age of five\, he was admitted to the Gnesin Academy of Music\, and had his first public appearance at the age of seven. By the time he graduated from the renowned academy\, he had performed as a soloist and chamber musician in England\, Israel\, Russia\, and Cyprus. Philip continued his education at the Maymonedes Academy\, UCLA (University of California\, Los Angeles)\, and USC (University of Southern California)\, graduating Cum Laude with a Master’s Degree in Music. \n\n\n\nPhilip has performed in major halls across the world and at international festivals including The Huddersfield International Music Festival in England\, The Spoleto Music Festival in Italy\, The Music Festival of Pitea in Sweden\, The Hvar International Summer Festival in Croatia\, The Soesterberg International Music Festival in the Netherlands\, and the Bruman Chamber Music Festival in California. \n\n\n\nPhilip Vaiman’s recordings are featured on the soundtracks of award-winning motion pictures\, documentaries\, and commercials. She has also played with Burt Bacharach and Rod Stewart; appeared in commercials\, television\, video games and radio broadcasts. \n\n\n\nIt is hard to pinpoint my earliest childhood exposure to music. It was simply always there. I frequently saw my father\, the painter Meyer Uranovsky\, drop whatever he was doing and rush over to his mandolin to strum out a little melody\, or grab his bongos\, a table or countertop to drum out an intricate rhythm. My slightly more formal musical training began at school in my home-town of Cape Town\, South Africa. All the kids were lined up and ushered one-by-one into the auditorium where they found a strange man hovering over a piano. During my audition I was asked to clap a rhythm\, sing a little melody and was then told the verdict – I would be appointed a cello… \n\n\n\nLuckily I fell in love with the cello\, and from that moment on I always wanted to be playing. I lost countless hours foraging for notes up and down the ebony fingerboard\, searching for a way to express myself by mastering bow control and vibrato. By the age of 15 I was playing solo with the Cape Town Symphony Orchestra on a major stage\, an opportunity which drove me to pursue my cello career further. Armed with a scholarship and a beautiful French cello given to me just months before by a generous benefactor\, I set out at the age of 18 for the United States. My studies eventually took me all over this wonderful country\, perhaps most notably to Yale where I had the great fortune to work with the legendary Aldo Parisot. \n\n\n\nI am now based in Los Angeles with my family\, and became a US citizen in 2012. My musical journey has allowed me to tour throughout the US\, Europe\, Asia and the Caribbean. My work remains diverse\, a jazz quartet one week and a nationally endowed improvisatory chamber ensemble the next week. Music has also given me many wonderful opportunities – playing cello with pop stars such as The Eagles\, Glen Hansard\, Burt Bacharach\, Rod Stewart and Bollywood legend Shreya Ghoshal\, recording soundtracks for Hollywood movies and video games\, and appearing in commercials\, TV and radio shows. Perhaps most rewarding of all\, I have been able to pass on my love of cello to my students\, the next generation of cello players. This has been a wonderfully magical adventure so far\, and one I hope to continue for many years to come. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKoni Choi\n\n\n\nKorean harpist\, Koni Choi has been recognized and praised by the media such as The Philadelphia Inquirer as an artist of “naturalistic\, theatrical sense of flourish.” Choi has concertized extensively throughout North America\, Asia\, & Europe\, and has won numerous awards including the Nippon International Harp Competition\, the Concours Internationaux de la ville de Paris\, France\, and the Korean Chamber Orchestra Competition. \n\n\n\nChoi graduated from The Curtis Institute of Music (Bachelor of Music BM) in Philadelphia\, where she studied with the legendary harpist Judy Loman and worked closely with conductors such as Simon Rattle and Christoph Eschenbach. After Curtis\, she worked as a member of the Toronto Symphony and continued her studies at The Royal Conservatory of Music (Artist Diploma\, AD). She has performed as a member of the Los Angeles Philharmonic\, Vancouver Symphony\, Baltimore Symphony\, and many more. While she resided in New York City\, she worked many years as a harpist for the longest-running musical show\, Fantasticks. \n\n\n\nSince she has moved to LA\, she has actively been involved in the Motion Picture Recording Industry where she has performed in various movies and TV shows. She is currently a coach and a faculty member at Junior Chamber Music (JCM) and Harvard-Westlake School. As a music ambassador of her generation\, Choi has a passion for outreach and giving back to the community. Choi has a distinguished private studio with talented students. \n\n\n\nChoi continues her passion for music as a soloist\, a chamber musician\, an orchestral performer\, a recording artist\, and a teacher. There is no drink minimum at High Note. \n\n\n\n\n—————————————- \n\n\n\nGETTING THERE: \n\n\n\n\nThe fastest way to get to Illusion Magic Lounge is to simply take the 10 towards Santa Monica\, take the 5th St/4th St. exit\, turn right on to 4th\, and park in Structure 5. \n\n\n\nParking Structure 5 is right next door to the venue and is free for the first hour and a half. As that’s roughly the length of our show\, you’ll likely be at the 2 hour mark which is only $2. If you get to Santa Monica early or stay later\, parking rates are very reasonable at $5 for 3hrs and $9 for 4hrs.\n\n\n\nThe Metro E-Line stretches from East LA\, through DTLA\, and all the way to Santa Monica where it stops 2 blocks away from our show. There is no drink minimum at High Note. \n\n\n\n\n—————————————- \n\n\n\nGETTING THERE: \n\n\n\n\nThe fastest way to get to Illusion Magic Lounge is to simply take the 10 towards Santa Monica\, take the 5th St/4th St. exit\, turn right on to 4th\, and park in Structure 5. \n\n\n\nParking Structure 5 is right next door to the venue and is free for the first hour and a half. As that’s roughly the length of our show\, you’ll likely be at the 2 hour mark which is only $2. If you get to Santa Monica early or stay later\, parking rates are very reasonable at $5 for 3hrs and $9 for 4hrs.\n\n\n\nThe Metro E-Line stretches from East LA\, through DTLA\, and all the way to Santa Monica where it stops 2 blocks away from our show.
